Winter Weather Ahead! Check your outdoor plumbing.
Dear Beverly Beach neighbors,
This is the time of year when the weather gets colder and outside water spigots and waterlines can freeze. During our ice storm last year, several private waterlines froze causing severe problems maintaining enough water in our system. Our water operators worked at night and in stormy weather walking from house to house to try and find where the leaks were located.
There are some things that you can do to help with this problem:
1. If your property is not regularly occupied or is a weekend house, please shut off your water to the property when you are away. This will help prevent flooding of your property and water loss if pipes freeze.
2. If you live here all the time, either shut off outdoor plumbing or insulate outdoor pipes and spigots to protect them from freezing, and regularly check your outdoor plumbing after cold snaps to make sure there is not any running water.
3. If you hear water running at your house or your neighbors, check it out. If the neighbors have running water and are gone, let us know. Even though our operators looked high and wide for the leak last winter, it wasn’t until someone told us they heard water running that it was found.
Thank you everyone!
